The city was at the height of its glory in the days of Jesus, boasting fine Roman architecture, colonnaded streets, large water reservoirs and palaces. The focal point of the city was the temple. Herod changed the city’s landscape by expanding the Temple Mount and its magnificent architecture brought fame and multitudes to the city. This was the city Jesus knew, Jerusalem clothed in splendor.
